STATE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING—SUMMARY OF MINUTES
OCTOBER 19, 2002

The October 19, 2002 State Council of Cabrillo Civic Clubs of California, Inc. Board of Directors meeting hosted by Santa Clara #21 & Santa Cruz #24 at the CPDES Hall in Santa Cruz was called to order at 9:15 a.m. by State President Richard Borges. State Marshal Frankie Scialo led the Pledge of Allegiance which was immediately followed by a moment of silence for ill and deceased members. State Liability Insurance Breck Austin offered the Invocation. State Secretary Jacqui Austin called the roll showing a quorum present and a motion carried approving the agenda. Host City Co-Chairperson Mary Lou Lawrence introduced both her Co-Chairperson JoAnn Cacace and Santa Cruz #24 Club President Lena Gerber who welcomed all in attendance.

*April 20, 2002 State Board of Directors meeting minutes approved as read

*Treasurer’s report presented

*Reports of District Governors, State Directors, Standing/Special Committees & State Officers

*Civic Affairs reported 77,850 volunteer hours & $3,590.64 to 32 charities.

*Revised Constitution & Bylaws have been distributed.

*Convention 2002 to be held January 17, 18 & 19, 2003 at Holiday Inn in Visalia

*Revised scholarship application ready for distribution

*Subordinate Clubs need to carry liquor liability when events include the club’s sale of alcohol

Past State Presidents & Spouses discussed the following: expelled members are ineligible for membership in an alternate club; give attendance awards at State meetings; communication issues with notification of PSP/PFL deaths; traveling All Around Club trophy; desire newsletters from all clubs; possible newsletter contest; separate Scholarship & Portuguese Education; eligible students, California student & of Portuguese descent; all club representation at State meetings.

Motion carried State Council to reimburse cost of April 2002 scholarship screening rooms

Motion carried to return funds to Scholarship fund for missing student

Motion carried to accept Treasurer’s report

Motion carried to donate $150.00 to Scholarship fund in memory of PFL Viola Serpa.

Santa Clara #21 reported club is closing effective December 31, 2002 due to lack of members & participation

Motion carried naming RuthAnne Lemos, Frank Leo & Barbara Hosaka to the Nominating Committee

2003 April State Board and Scholarship Screening is April 24th-26th 2003 at Radisson Inn in Fresno

The meeting was adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
